Bubba's First Christmas Program & This is All I Got?

Seriously Shawn

Bubba appeared in his first Christmas Program this past week.  It is particularly sentimental to me as this is my last child beginning all the memorable events.  8 years after my first began all these fun things, I am more prepared and wiser about what to capture.

I have a nice DSLR camera and I "semi" know how to use.

I have a nicer video camera and some mad video-making skills to make a nice finished product.

And if all else fails?  I have an iPhone 4 that has a decent video camera.

 nice banister.
could we be any less sharp?
cute smile but there's that damn bannister again.
argh - even the red eye fix can't make this one look decent.

Was I prepared?

uh. no.  my battery was dead on the video camera.

The iPhone was too far away.

And even with my zoom lens, the lighting was terrible, creating an artificially colored look to my pictures.

no, there is no perfectionist qualities in me...what are you talking about?

I get so frustrated with the fact that I have a fantastic camera and I can't seem to capture a decent picture. No matter how much I read up on it, get advice from friends and websites, or even have someone else put the correct settings on  it, I can't take a decent picture......

And visiting all these amazing photography blogs doesn't help.  It just makes me jealous.

About half-way through the program, I set my camera down and just watched.  I soaked all 2 minutes of him shaking his jingle bells and rocking Baby Jesus in his arms.  And took a mental picture.

And that one?  That one came out absolutely perfect.

I have read so many blogs and articles trying to learn how to take amazing pictures. I have not accomplished that.

Sometimes just enjoying the moment is far better than a picture. He's pretty cute!

Sometimes is better to just savor the moment than to take a picture. I usually do exactly what you did...try a few shots and then just put it down. My pictures I posted of Caleb's performance were awful, but I enjoyed it a ton and it's super clear in my head :)

Don't beat yourself up!

Sometimes we NEED to just put down the camera and be in the moment.

He looks like he did great!

Awww...but he DOES look so cute! At least you have a few pics of this to look at later. You ALWAYS take amazing pictures. But I also know that YOU ARE INDEED a PERFECTIONIST! It's ok though. I love you for that. And I know from experience that you take amazing videos! =)

Thanks for linking up. Please don't break up with me for not linking up Friday. I tried. It just didn't happen. My head is still spinning from getting ready for Christmas and birthday stuff. I'm getting there....

I know what you're talking about! I have a hard time getting my pictures to turn out how I want, but you're right...the mental pictures never fail!

Glad you were able to enjoy the moment!! At least he is in the picture, smiling and in focus, three things that seem to fail for me ALL the time!! Enjoy these 'first, lasts' with him, as you know they go by so fast!!

I feel your pain with the whole picture thing. I think my bestie and I are going to take a photography class together. I tried this week to get pictures of the girls with candles and white Christmas lights hanging from trees..it was a freaking nightmare!

What you did get was wonderful and the mental picture will hopefully last you a life time.

I was reading along, laughing and nodding in agreement and with sympathy, and I got to that last line and you made me freaking cry!
No soup for you!
