Big Race Day

Well it's here!  Brody's big race day at the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby.  He & his Daddy worked hard on their car to get it ready to race.  Hours and hours of carving, sanding, gluing, painting....... right Matt? Well, maybe not that much time.  But after seeing some of the cars "made" by these 1st & 2nd grade boys, you'd think they spent months on them.  I am all about the bonding that occurs between the boy & his dad over the pinewood car, but seriously, had you seen some of these cars, you'd know that the boys were given very little to do to make it.  Some of these dads got WAY too into it for me.
How did we do?  Not bad for his first year:

Look at all the fancy cars made by first grade boys....yeah right.

ours was the cammo- Brody's choice

ready to race

and we're ahead!!

yes!

proud boy!

gotta love it!

How fun! I am sure the win is even more special because he had a part in making it!

Been there, done that, both with Cubs and church R.A.s And yeah, my husband and I both got totally disgusted with the way the dads handled it. I'm not sure those kids learned anything other than letting Dad handle everything for them. (Ditto the experience with science projects etc.)

Um, can you tell this is a bit of a soap box for me?! LOL

How fun! I can't believe all he detail (the CARS look a like). I agree I don't think the first graders did all that. Love the camoo car and looks like it was a winner. I love the photo of the little man cheering. Great Job, Boys!

That looks like SOOO much fun! I bet he had a blast. You can tell by the expression on his face that he is very proud of his car! I'm sure dad is too!! =)

Fuuuun! I think Jason still has his when he was a Boy Scout. And you are so right, those were not done by 7 yr olds! It made me think of the Brothers and Sisters (do you watch it?) recent episode of the science fair with obvious parent-made entries. :)

Love the cammo!

Fabulous! And I love that father and son actually worked on it together. It's obvious from some of the other cars that dad made it and son watched. Victory must be even sweeter for those who follow the rules!
