Just add water

A little late getting this Independence Day post out, and I knew all of you were dying to know what the Darlings did to celebrate our nation's 233rd birthday.
We went to the lake. Lake LBJ (after the late president), tucked away in the Texas Hill country, has a cozy little home on it that has been in our family for years. I remember going up there as a child, swimming in the cove, trying to learn to water ski, fishing, playing 31 with the adults.......lots of great childhood memories are found here. And now that we live less than an hour away, we are able to create new ones with our children. And this past weekend was no exception.
Most of the time was spent on the lake, playing games, and eating great summer food. I enjoyed reading and napping while the kids were out on the lake- Ian and PaPa Texas (who recently had shoulder surgery) and I hung out in the cool indoors. Thus, we have no pictures of fun on the lake.
We did turn on the sprinklers one afternoon and watched the kids (Morganne, Jack, and their cousins, Marra & Shaun) go crazy. I must have snapped 3 dozen pictures and had to limit the ones I shared with you. Have I mentioned how much I love my camera????

And lastly, a quick shot of my Independence Day dessert- back by popular demand. Simply layers of pound cake, strawberries, whipped cream, and blue raspberry and strawberry jello. Yummy!

Happy July weekend- hope you are doing something great to celebrate summer- here in Texas, that's called Beat the Heat- stay Indoors!!!!

Wow! It looks like everyone had tons of fun! And the cake looks so yummy!

In NY, we've had such a mild summer so far...it's still cool enough to sleep with the windows open at night, and last night I was freezing! It's totally different from the kind of summers in spent living in Texas...

I hope you're "beating the heat" down there! Have a great weekend!

Those pictures are fantastic! Looks like such a blast.

Isn't it wonderful when we are able to pass on our memories and traditions of youth to our own children?
