Cake Popped Off

I don't know why I do this to myself.

I used to think I was a crafty kind of girl ~ and I don't mean a weasel ~ I mean,  I thought I could make stuff.

But then I go and try to make something cutesy for the house...cause I've been inspired by all the amazin stuff Viv & Jen Jen & Shawn & ok....everyone....can make.

And once again, I fail...miserably.  I don't know why I even think I can do it.  I mean, look at my latest mess.....

Anyone else been inspired by this woman???
Bakerella....ah how I love your cake pops!!! I think they are precious and adorable and I always promised myself I would try to make them......

And then I received the Cake Pops book from a dear friend.  I spent weeks reading the "how tos" and built up courage to make them myself.

So I finally did it.  $50 in supplies and 3 stores later, here we go!!

Bake the cake, cool it, then tear it apart.
got it. easy.
3/4 a can of frosting.
don't forget to clip the Box Tops for your favorite school!
mix it together - not very yummy looking.
and then roll them into balls - but make sure you have atleast 48- panic a little while you are doing it that you might not have 48, so pinch a few balls down to size - there you go -
messy hands and 48 cake balls

now one of the pains for me was finding styrofoam that could hold 48 cake pops.
I had to go to 3 stores to get enough that was thick enough to hold them
And even 3 rows was too much for one block - argh!
So after chilling (not freezing) the cake balls, the actually dipping was easy.
But why do they look all misshapen?  Bakerellas are all perfectly round.....

I took 30 minutes to make each tiny bow for the heads of these girls....
4 1/2 hours later and here is my finished product.
hmmm.
not so pretty.
especially when they should have looked like this:

What went wrong?
1. It took too long - It was exhausting!!
2. my edible markers would not write on the frosting well.
3. It took too long- I had laundry to fold that day!!
4. I managed to "overload" one side of the styrofoam block too much and the whole thing tipped over when they had just been dipped.
4. It took too long - I have a baby!!!
5. The noses were all pointy, not perfect dots like "she" can make.
6.  It took too stinkin' long.

So, how did I fix the 47 other cake balls to make them ready for the shower the next day?
I melted down some white wafers, added blue tint, turn the pops upside down and drizzled away!!

At this point, I am pretty sure the crafting Gods are against me.  I'm done - don't come waving your adorable homemade Easter eggs at me any more (you know who I'm talking to!!).

I will buy it from now on.

Oh Weddings...weddings

Such a joyous, romantic time.  Watching a sweet, young, innocent couple join as one before God & their family.  Being married for 15 years, weddings always bring a little tear to my eye.

My youngest brother was married up in Washington a few weeks ago.  He has lived in Washington for many years now.  No matter how much we'd like him to eventually come "home", the Emerald Coast is where his heart is and where he will stay.  So when we got the joyous news that he was getting married, we were all very excited for him & his fiance.  And we knew, he wouldn't be coming home.

The wedding planning was soon underway.  And no matter how much the bride & groom tried to please all of the families' wishes, we know that is impossible to do.  The hardest part for our family, living in Texas, was not being there for the planning.  But we forged ahead with our plans to get there and make it a special weekend.

Oh, of course there are the stressful moments of the weekend (you try taking a 17m old to the rehearsal dinner when it is wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyy past his bedtime- nightmare!!).  There are the moments when you are just shaking your head (so how did my son get his dress pants on backwards?  And how did we NOT notice this until we got to the church?).  And there are moments of exhaustion (why did we choose the bedroom right beneath the community bathroom?). But all of those "moments" are soon forgotten and overshadowed by seeing your baby brother all dressed up to get married.......
or seeing the bride & groom so in love....
or seeing your father read an inspiring passage......

or seeing your family all dressed up...and together.
Or maybe it's the goofy kids enjoying themselves......
nah.  It's the exhausted momma & daddy who have been chasing an upset, out-of-routine toddler around all weekend.  See how nicely we can fake the smiles???
Yes, family weddings can be stressful, they can make you never want to host one (seriously, a destination wedding sounds fantastic!), they can even exhaust you.  But, they are special.  And you know all the hard work and effort and stress......it means a lot to the bride & groom.  And that in itself is worth it.

My Eight

One: I love that he is innocent about the world around him.
Two: I love that he raced inside the house to get a band aid for his sister this week.
Three: I love that he is stubborn and holds his ground.
(*Disclaimer- as his momma, this one is hard.
I keep remembering how it will make him a confident man someday.)
Four: I love that he loves lizards, trains, snakes, Legos, and Star Wars.
Five: I love that he told us that he likes grilled chicken the other day.
WHAT? Only took us years to get him to try it!
Six: I love that he prefers to eat at a fast food restaurant, but choose to go to a "slow food" restaurant for his birthday dinner because "the whole family likes Chuy's!"
Seven: I love that his Dad is his Hero.
Eight: I love that he is too cool to tell me "I Love You", so I get a "You too Mom" instead.
Happy 8th Birthday!!
We love you!
We are proud of you!
And we thank God that you are our son!

Any Reason for a Celebration

Last day of school?  Perfect reason for a celebration!  So why not grab some horns, balloons, and a bright yellow sign to greet them as they tumbled off the bus for the last time this year?

All the kiddos from our stop with our great bus driver, Ms. Denise!
After the obligatory photo opp, we all enjoyed Blue Bell Ice Cream Sandwiches.
One sweet soon-to-be-5th-grader told me that our bus stop was "definitely the coolest!"

I hope these 2 always think I'm the coolest!!

Margaritas for a One Year Old?

if you are any kind of follower of my blog, you know that we have been celebrating all week for our littlest one.  He turned one last week.  Duh.  And Matt & I decided that we'd celebrate B.I.G.  No cake & Elmo for us.....  We wanted a bash with all our friends & family to help us celebrate a whole year with him in our lives.  And what could be more fun that a backyard party complete with a margarita machine & nacho bar?
What is more enjoyable than a margarita machine on your back porch??
Oh yes, back to the reason we are celebrating.....
We had lots of family.
Grandma & PaPa Texas
Aunt Ginger
And lots of great friends.
It was the perfect night too!  Everyone had a great time.
Especially the Birthday Boy!
And no party would be complete without CAKE!
Don't ya think Bubba?
