50 States Challenge!

So, my kids know a lot about this state.....
but not so much about the other 49 (what??!! there's other states out there besides Texas??)

usamap.jpg

And that, my dear friends, is where you can help us out!  This summer, my kids and I are taking on the 50 States Challenge!!  In an effort to learn all our states, we are attempting to collect as many post cards from the states as we can.  We have a map laid out and as each post card comes in, we will find it on the map and "flag" it as identified.  Our goals are to...
  1. Collect at least ONE card from each state.
  2. See what state we get the most cards from.
  3. Identify a favorite state from the post cards we receive and learn a few facts about it.
So, can you please help us?  Would you mind sending our family a postcard from the state you live in?  We still want to collect Texas ones too, my Lone Star friends!!  Maybe, if you are so inclined, you could pick up a postcard from another state you are visiting on vacation?  We would greatly appreciate it!  Just shoot me a quick email and I will send you our address.

We love a challenge, and this is one we want to complete before heading back to school in September. We will blog about it during the summer and let you know our status!!

And honestly, as much as I don't want them to ever move away, my kids need to know there is much more than just Texas out there!!

I will send some postcards, however, it is very important that I share with you the "V Spot Family Theory Of Child Migration":

Children grow up and when they get married, they end up living where the WIFE is from/near her family. You're fine for Sissy, but for Brody and Bubba Boy, you need to start planning now.

Find a good commuter-type University near you (Not some big university that draws kids from around the country) and tell the boys you will pay for that college, but anything else they will need to get a scholarship for or pay for themselves. That way, they'll meet and marry a nice, local Texas girl and stay near their mamma!

You're welcome.

Second, I love Viv's theory. I'm gonna have to do that when my kids get older.

Third, thanks for the birthday wishes!!

This is such a great idea. When I taught kindergarten we did "Where in the World is Mrs. Miller." So we visited all 50 states in one year. I was amazed at how much the kids learned from this.
I will totally join in with this fun game. You are a great mom, who is always thinking about her kids.

Very fun idea -- the kids will have a great time with it! I will holler at some of my old friends in Hawaii and see if they will send postcards!

What a way cool, fun, educational thing to do. What a neat mom you are! And, Vivienne's theory is hilarious...and probably there's a lot of truth in it.

What a great project for your kids! I have lots of friends and family in other states that I will reach out to join. Can't wait to read about it!

As a future teacher I am LOVING this idea! It's awesome! I wish you luck, and if I happen to travel out of state during the summer I'll grab one for you - but just FYI, the chances of out of state traveling aren't looking good!
